Inclusive App Dev Hackathon 2022

Swift Logo

In our very first inaugural hackathon, teams of 3 to 4 students will design and code apps in Swift to tackle challenges provided by a non-profit organisation, the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH). The aim of this hackathon is to support the students throughout the complete app development process - from designing a relevant solution, to developing a functional app and ultimately, publishing their applications to the App Store for everyone to use.

Design Phase

01. Swift IAP Workshop

This workshop provides teams with training on how to design and build inclusive iOS apps with Apple-certified training materials. It is open to non-participants of the hackathon too! We have completed this workshop and students are now prepared to showcase their ideas.

02. Swift Design Showcase

This showcase took place on 22 January 2022 from 1 to 3 PM. The teams presented their inclusive app solutions through a 3-minute presentation and received feedback from guest speakers from SUTD and SAVH. We also showcased innovative iOS app designs by upcoming young secondary school coders.

Develop Phase

03. Weekly Check-ins with Teams

During this phase, the teams focused on developing and testing their apps, and received weekly consultations to assist them in their app development. The teams have completed their apps and are ready to publish their apps to the App Store.

04. iOS App Showcase and Final Judging

The showcase is a culmination of the 6-month long hackathon, and will be held via Zoom on Saturday 21 May, 2022 from 2-4pm. The teams will showcase their completed and published iOS apps to a panel of judges, and the winning teams will receive cash prizes.
Our guest speaker, Ivan Tan, is a Senior Manager at the Society for the Physically Disabled, and will be sharing more about the challenges faced by the physically disabled.
We will also be holding a lucky draw for the audience, who will have the chance to win Apple Merchandise. To be eligible for the prizes, you must sign up via the form below and be present on Zoom during the event.
